RESCUE DOGS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: Updated 10/21/09

Simone Tharpe of Hayfork, CA has a number of rescue dogs that were abandoned at her place. Some were starving and/or pregnant and may have been beaten. Simone took them in, nursed them back to health and has worked with them. They are crate trained, will walk on a leash, and are friendly with Simone. However, some of the dogs may need some extra work and love. If you are looking for a dog, are experienced with dogs, and have room in your heart for a dog that has had a rough life (before Simone), please call Simone at 530-628-5233. If you don't see a dog description that appeals to you, please call Simone, because there are more dogs than are listed on this page. I will be adding more dogs, as the profiles and photos are available. There is no fee to adopt any of these dogs, she just wants to find loving homes for them. PLEASE spay and neuter your pet!!

ZEBRA:  FEMALE TERRIER MIX DOG: medium size; smooth short hair coat; short tail. Date of birth: 09/2003 (She is Buster & Boomer’s litter mate). She is spayed and due for vaccine boosters. Photo:  full body

Description: Zebra is an extremely sensitive, sweet-natured girl, who just wants to be loved and tenderly cared for.  Zebra has demonstrated heightened sensitivity from the time she was a puppy. You can see in the way she looks at you that she is friendly and eager to please, yet her shyness and nervousness create an inability to focus. Zebra is crate-trained and well-mannered.  She’ll always walk right by your side on or off-leash.  She’s a born nurturer and is great with kittens, cats, puppies and other dogs, and has revealed a surprising ability to provide stable alpha leadership to young dogs in her pack, despite her skittish nature around people and unfamiliar surroundings. Since Zebra was rescued from a remote, rural area, she has not had many socialization opportunities, and needs to be placed in a home without children. Her primary sensitivity issues arise from her genetic background, so she is considered to have special needs which require the guidance of a compassionate and experienced dog handler. This wonderful girl would blossom under the loving and patient care of someone who understands she needs to be handled with a “silk glove.”  Zebra would thrive in a loving, calm and quiet home with a mature adult or couple, and she would also enjoy cats or an older companion dog.

BOOMER: MALE SHEPHERD MIX DOG: medium size; short coat. Date of birth: 09/2003 (He is Zebra & Buster’s littermate). He is not neutered and is due for vaccine boosters. Photos:  full body   face

Description: Boomer is a very sensitive, tender-hearted boy, who just wants to be loved.  He’s friendly and sweet, but has always been timid and unsure of himself. Boomer is crate-trained and very eager to please. He loves to walk right by your side on or off-leash. He’s good with cats and other dogs, and has demonstrated a very sweet, nurturing behavior towards some recently rescued young puppies. Since Boomer was rescued from a remote, rural area, he has not had the socialization opportunities necessary to help him overcome his shyness. This wonderful boy would blossom under the guidance of a skillful, loving and patient handler to develop the skills he needs to become self-assured and outgoing. Boomer would thrive in a home with other stable dogs, no small children, and an experienced dog person. He’s definitely a “gem” to those who know what they’re looking at!

BUSTER: MALE SHEPHERD/CHOW MIX DOG: medium size; short to medium hair coat. Date of birth: 09/2003 (He is Zebra & Boomer’s littermate). He is not neutered & is due for vaccines. Photos:  full body   face

Description: Buster is as sweet as he is cute! He’s just wonderful with people and just wants to be loved. Buster is great with cats and has a very mellow, sweet disposition. Rescued from a remote rural area, he’s been around horses and other dogs, but hasn’t had much socialization. He’s extremely friendly for a dog coming from such a background. This wonderful boy is basic obedience trained and will walk right by your side either on or off-leash. You can sense his loyalty and devotion just by the look he gives you. Buster just wants to be that special buddy to someone and has so much love to give. While waiting for that special someone, Buster amuses himself by playing with his dog dish and carries it around in his mouth joyfully until someone comes over to pet him. This dog definitely has a special charm all of his own!

JENNY: FEMALE SCHNAUZER MIX DOG: medium size; short wire hair coat. Estimate 5-6 years old (mother of Lara & Nellie). She is spayed & vaccinated (due for vaccine boosters). Photos:  full body   face

Description: Jenny is a delightful, people-loving, sweet-natured dog, who loves to run and play. She’s crate-trained and always eager to learn something new.  Just one look into those warm, alert, brown eyes, and you see the intelligence radiating from Jenny. She’s a natural at nurturing and is always eager to please and show her affection. Jenny is great with cats and other dogs, and is also comfortable around horses. Having been isolated in a remote, rural area, she lacks everyday socialization opportunities and would be at her best with an experienced dog person. Jenny has not been around children, so a home without small children is also recommended. This is a wonderfully affectionate, attentive and intelligent dog that just needs a chance to show you what she has to offer.
